One planet, seven billion people with aspirations to travel

Our planet is in crisis. The rapid growth of tourism over the last 20 years is making its presence felt through environmental and commercial pressures at tourist destinations around the globe. The very eco systems and cultures at the heart of traveller’s expectations are being damaged or destroyed at an unprecedented rate.

It’s Your Planet aims to highlight sustainable tourism issues by informing and educating travellers and showcasing travel providers’ and destination operators’ efforts in averting a global catastrophe.

The sustainable traveller

Whether you accept climate change or not consider this: Undoubtedly, this planet has undergone cycles of change in the past (duh!), even phases of warming such as we appear to be experiencing now. However, this is the first time, as far as anyone can tell, that the planet has gone through this loaded with 7.7 billion human beings. Even if you’re skeptical, isn’t a little prudence common sense?

So, as travellers and providers of travel experiences, what can we do to help the planet bear the brunt of our desire for adventure and shared experiences? Well, actually, quite a lot.
